HOPE

An honest thought,

A heartfelt desire,

An insatiable longing for something,

(at times against the common norms)

And the heart sinks with realization…..

The magnum opus dreams fall as fast as they had risen.

Reality strikes hard.

Thousands of doubts flood the brain

Leaving no scope for anything to flourish .

The tug of war between fact and fiction,

Right and wrong, wanting and getting,

Takes a heavy toll.

All the warnings and forebodings,

predictions and snide remarks

elbow their way to the forefront

canopying even the slightest possibility

of going ahead and metamorphosing one’s dream

into reality.

Just as this rendezvous with the feelings

threatens never to end,

a surreal warmth fills the body

pushing all the negative emotions

into oblivion.

It caresses the soul

and teaches it to dream again.

It acts like the guiding light,

the voice of the angel

rekindling the flame of optimism

that had been mercilessly extinguished.

It doesnot make any promises,

It does not guarantee anything for sure,

All it ensures is peace of mind.

It calls itself HOPE’.

and it's something i hate - "hope" - the root evil - the creator of expectations

no, am not against dreaming, it's alright to dream, it's alright to chase it too. what am against is making a dream ur ultimate goal and trying to fulfil it. maybe i am not brave enough to dream and chase it and bear the so-called losses or maybe i've just woken up to the fact that dreams are temporary, it's achievement isn't as important as the attempt to reach them.

success and failure is something that is such a personal perception.. it can't be global one.. and what after u r "Successful"? you'll bask in the glory for sometime and then again you would want more.. isn't that ridiculous.. i mean.. we'll never stop wanting more.. the dissatisfied us.. well.. they say i'm not ambitious.. yeah.. they are so right.. but i'm not lazy.. i disagree to that.. you may call me a coward to an extent.. but certainly not lazy.. all i can say is i am trying to not want more and trying to stay satisfied with all i have and all i am getting and all i don't have and all that am not getting.

phew! ok.. apart from all the bullcrap that i've typed.. hehehe.. nice effort! really liked it! :)

@ SUK- Weird! hope is the only thing iam left with:( agreed that hope creates expectations but it also makes u realize that those expectations may not come true. u r mentally prepared for the worst. its better to have smthn to luk fwd to, rather than lead a helpless, hapless life. remember, ystrday u told me to keep trying and not to lose heart? i was so pissed that i went off to sleep after dat. i woke up "hoping" for things to be better. else i wud have gone on brooding the entire evening!

Hmm, there's a "lot" in that poem. I wonder if it's the same bug that bit you.

Abhu said...

@ swap- :)and i thot 'I' was the 'poet' in this case and hence had the right to keep all those mysteries surrounding this poem alive. but somehow ,everyone except me, seems to have figured out something bout it:P 'Bug'?? The so-called "manipal bug"?? lol.
